Wisdom can mean many different things depending on a person’s perspective. Some people could think that wisdom is getting good grades, having a high grade point average, or having good SAT scores, but I think differently. In my opinion wisdom is not something that could be learned in school; in fact it is not something that can be taught at all. Wisdom is something that is acquired over time and experience. I have heard many times elderly people be called wise and I think it is absolutely true. The older you are and the more experiences you have the more wisdom you can acquire over time.
Being wise is different than being smart in my opinion. If someone is very smart and they get good grades in school they could not be wise at all. Some of the smartest people I know have no common sense whatsoever. I think that you can’t have it all so you are either really book smart, really street smart, or average at both. Even with that being said I still think wisdom is a different look on knowledge. Wisdom is not someone who graduated with a Ph.D., but more likely someone who experienced going off to war in Afghanistan. I believe that wisdom is learned through experiences and you have to find your wisdom for yourself. Wisdom cannot be taught from someone else it is something that you have to go out in the world and find for yourself.
I do not think that there is a way that you could test a person’s wisdom. Wisdom is not like taking a standardized test that is black and white. There are different levels and kinds of wisdom. There are many elderly people who have stories about things that they have experienced. Times have changed tremendously from the 1930’s and the people that are on the Earth now that are under the age of 60 will never know what it was like then. We need the elderly people to share their wisdom of the past with the younger people of the world that way their wisdom can be passed down from generation to generation.
The person I know that has the most wisdom is my grandpa. He is eighty-four years old and he has so many stories from when he was younger that he is full of wisdom. My grandpa did not have an easy life growing up he was put into an orphanage at a young age and stopped going to school in 4th grade. My grandpa does not have a very good education and he can barely read and write which just proves that you do not need a good education to be wise. He has experienced so many things throughout his life like growing up in an orphanage, working three jobs to support a family, and being able to experience his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are not many people in the world who can say that they are able to watch their great-grandchildren grow up and that is wisdom in my opinion. Wisdom is the experiences that you have in life, not the education that you have.
