As the school year is coming closer and closer to an end everyone is frantically trying to decide what they want to do after high school. What are your plans for after high school? Do you want to go to college, go into the service, or maybe go into the work field?
High school has been four years that we will never get back. For some people high school is the worst experience of their and for others it is the best experience of their life. Did you enjoy high school or did you hate it? Are you happy to be graduating or will you miss returning to Central Regional in September?

Death
Death is something that everyone wonders about, but no one can avoid. Eventually we are all going to have to go through death and there is nothing we can do about it. It is human nature to be afraid of the unknown and that is what makes death so scary because absolutely no one knows exactly what to expect. Anyone that does know is not around anymore to tell the people that are still alive, so we just have to hope for the best and when it does happen just accept it because there is no stopping it.
I think death is a way to keep people understanding the meaning of life and have them realize that they need to enjoy their life while they still have their time on Earth. If no one ever died the world would be extremely overpopulated and people would be a lot more careless. There are many things that people hesitate from doing, like drinking and driving, because they have that thought that they could die. If death was not an issue there would be more people running around and doing whatever they wanted.
There are many different theories for what happens to people after they die, and no one knows the exact truth. I think that whatever you believe is what you get in the end. Some people think that they will be reincarnated; some believe that there is nothing after death, and others believe they will spend eternity in heaven. Whatever you believe I think that is what will happen to you after death. There is no right or wrong answer to death, whatever religion you practice or beliefs you have is what determines your faith. Being catholic I believe that after death I will go to heaven and be reunited with God and the rest of my deceased family members.
Death is a very scary thing because it is the unknown. Everyone worries about death because if you think about it too much you can freak yourself out. Even though it is hard not to be concerned about death I try to not worry about it. I just try to enjoy my life everyday while I am still living on Earth. No one ever knows when they are going to die which is another reason death is so scary. Even someone who is perfectly healthy could get in a car accident and die instantly without even doing anything wrong. Another thing that everyone has been worried about lately is the rumors that the world is going to end in December 2012. Even if these rumors are true there is nothing anyone can do to stop it, so why even bother worrying about it. It is definitely not easy to just ignore the fact that the world might end, but it is pointless to worry about it because then you are not enjoying the time you have left. I always try to enjoy my life every day because even though I am healthy and I try not to do stupid things to put myself in danger, I could get into a car accident or something could happen and I die so I would not want my last days to be miserable.

Curriculum
Creating a school curriculum is a lot harder than many people think. There is a lot to making classes that kids need to take and want to take at the same time. Now in school you have to take the basic classes like math, history, English, science, and a foreign language which are definitely essential for a good education. Although I do believe that children need to take all of these essential classes, there should also be more courses that are based on the careers that kids want to do in the future. There should be a required one or two years for math, science, and English instead of having to take three or four years of something you do not want to deal with after school. For example, if I am going to become an English teacher there is really no reason for me to take three years of a math or science class. I think that freshman year everyone should take the basics of every subject and then from sophomore to senior year your classes could become more focused on what you want to major in once you get to college.
Of course if school curriculums were set up like this that kids only had to take classes that were related to their majors the high schools would have to have many more classes. They would also have to hire more teachers to teach these classes. It would be difficult and expensive, but I think it would be worth the money, time, and effort. I think that kids would definitely try harder in classes that they are more interested in and that they understand. For example, I am not good at history, therefore it was always really hard to do my history homework because I never wanted to take the time to do it. On the other hand, I have always enjoyed math so when we had math homework it was still not fun to do, but it was easier for me to get through instead of the history. Kids would not complain as much about their classes if they actually enjoyed them. I feel that kids only complain about the classes that they really do not care about. I feel like it makes me a kit more driven to do good in the areas I like more than the areas that I do not like as much.
Although I think that the curriculum should be more based on what kids want to major in in college, but they definitely have to take the essential classes first. Also, I think English should definitely be required for at least three if not four years because no matter what field a child ends up going into they are going to need to know proper grammar and how to write a good essay. As for homework I think that homework should definitely be part of the curriculum to an extent. I think that teachers have to teach the lesson before you give the homework because if they give you homework the day before they teach the lesson it just causes extreme frustration to all of the students. I do think homework is beneficial to reinforce the lesson that was learned in class, but I just do not see the point in having kids trying to teach the lesson to themselves before they do the homework.
