Homework has always been a big part of high school, but senior year I feel I have had more homework than I ever had before. This year it is not much homework that is due the next day in class, but instead it is more long term assignments that force us to manage our time and to not procrastinate. It is a good skill to learn especially for college next year, but it is a big change from the past. Although I feel we do have a large amount of homework this year I do not believe it is too much. Of course I would rather hang out with my friends than do homework, but it will be very beneficial to us in college to practice having a lot of homework and long term assignments now.
I always have homework on the weekends. I normally have more homework to do on the weekends than during the week. I am the type of person that is so busy during the week with school and sports that I would rather just be able to take a day of my weekend and get all of my homework done. Of course it does not always work like that because you may have things due during the week, but I always save whatever I can to do on the weekends. I also find it better to concentrate late at night, so on the weekends I can stay up real late and do my homework and then sleep in the next morning.
It depends on the homework assignment to say if I learn from it or not. For example, when doing a research project I learn from it because you have to do all the research yourself. You basically have to teach yourself the material which forces you to look things up and you are more likely to remember them. Also, doing things like labs in science help me learn. I like being able to visualize things that I am learning and it helps me to better understand them. On the other hand, doing things where you need to read a chapter in a book and answer questions, or a worksheet I do not learn from. I can easily find the answers to the questions, but I do not remember anything that I read. I am more of a visual learner so when I just read something it is hard for me to comprehend it.
I try my best to not leave projects or other big assignments to last minute, but sometimes it does not work as planned. Compared to my friends I like to think of myself as being pretty good at staying on top of my school work. I normally do not leave assignments until last minute unless it is absolutely necessary. Even when I do leave projects or reports until last minute I am usually pretty good about getting everything finished.
Homework is a huge part of high school life and it has definitely changed over the years. Although it has changed and the homework has gotten more in depth, it will be beneficial to us in the long run. Having all of this homework now will make us more prepared for college and we will be more successful once we get to college.

Being Alone
Being alone can be extremely frightening or relaxing depending on the person. Some people are dependent on others and cannot be left alone. They feel uncomfortable and vulnerable to bad situations. Especially at night when a person who feels like this is left alone in a house they could begin to hear noises and think that someone else is in the house with them. People can get caught in their own mind games and truly believe that there is someone in the house with them and they freak themselves out. This can be a terrifying experience that could effect someone for the rest of their life. On the other hand some people enjoy having their alone time. They find it relaxing and rejuvenating to have some time by themselves. Certain people need that time alone so they can reflect and relax by themselves. Depending on the person they could need more or less alone time in their everyday lives.
In my opinion, I enjoy having my alone time. Growing up as an only child I was used to being alone with just my parents at home with me. When my parents go out together or they are both not home I enjoy having the house all to myself. It is nice and quiet so I can just relax and have time to myself. I find it very peaceful to be home alone because no one bothers me and I can take time and reflect on things that have happened. Of course I enjoy hanging out with my friends, but I do need my alone every once in a while. I do wish that I had more time to myself because I feel I would be able to get a lot more things done. Although I am an only child my parents can sometimes be extremely distracting. They are always making noise throughout the house and sometimes it can be hard to concentrate. I love the quiet soothing sound of an empty house.
When I am alone I do many different things. Most of the time I try to take advantage of the peace and quiet and either do some reading or homework i can get more things done alone without any distractions. There are other I times other times I will blast music throughout the house. When I blast the music I also sing very loud which is a lot of fun, but I am always embarrassed to do it in front of anyone else. My favorite time to be alone is when I am driving. Although I do enjoy company sometimes when I drive I like driving alone too. Being alone can be a terrifying experience for some people, but some people need their time alone.

Music
Music is something that you either really enjoy, or you could not be bothered with. Some people think it is just noise, while others think it is beautiful and meaningful. In my opinion, I enjoy listening to music and it always puts me in a better mood. Music is very opinion based because there is all different genres and styles. From rap to country to rock or gospel there is so many different types and they all have tons of fans. There is a type of music for no matter what kind of person you are.
In my opinion, I feel music is pretty important in my life. It always puts me in a good mood and lifts my spirits when I am feeling upset about something. Music is important to me because it is entertainment and many things revolve around it. I definitely believe it is more than just background noise because every song has its own meaning. The song writers write songs about their life experiences and I think that is what makes music so meaningful. There is a story behind every song and even though you may not know all the details of the story, you can get an idea of how the song writer was feeling while writing the song. Sometimes when I listen to music I am not really listening. I get distracted while listening to music and then I could be listening to my iPod and not be able to tell you what the previous song was. Many times a certain song gets me thinking about something and I will completely tune out for a while and forget that I have my headphones in. On the other hand, there are times when I am paying close attention to every lyric of a song and really trying to interpret what it means.
When listening to music it depends on the mood I am in as to what type I would like to listen to. For example, if I am relaxed and a little tired I enjoy listening to slower music like songs by Adele or Colbie Caillat. If I am trying getting pumped up for a soccer game I listen to upbeat music like Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj. I always have my iPod with me in school because if I am having a bad day I can just tune out the world with my headphones and I start to feel better. My iPod has about 2,000 songs on it of all different genres. I have a lot of different playlists that I can listen to depending on the mood I am in, or sometimes I just shuffle through all the songs. Ii listen to music so often that I know all the words to just about every song on my iPod. In my opinion, the best thing about listening to music is being able to sing. Although I am not a good singer at all, I enjoy singing a lot. I always sing while I drive especially when I am alone and I always put the music so loud that when I sing I cannot hear myself. Music is very important to me and I enjoy listening to it all the time.

Phones
Cell Phones are a huge thing in America’s technology. For the most part everyone now a days has a cell phone and use it constantly. Especially with new smart phone technology you can even access the Internet right from your phone no matter where you are. Most of the teenage generation today has a phone and cannot live without it. We have become so dependent on these phones that we cannot imagine how people survived without one. In addition to the younger generation, even some most of the older generation who grew up without cell phones, now have one of their own. They are extremely handy and are very important when it comes to emergency situations.
I am definitely in the group of people that cannot live without their phone. I love my blackberry and can’t imagine what I would do without it. It is so convenient with text messaging, calling, Internet, GPS and even more all right at your fingertips. Smart phones can pretty much do anything and they are just getting more advanced by the day. I very rarely talk on the phone, but I text message and check Facebook constantly. I could go two weeks without getting a phone call, but I it is rare for me to go two hours without a text message. My mom is the exact opposite way, she does not stop talking on the phone, but when it comes to text messaging she is lost. It is funny to see how there is such a big difference between the generations and their usage of cell phones.
It is a little embarrassing how dependant we have become with our cell phones and other technology, but it has become our way of life. I could not even begin to imagine growing up without a cell phone. It would make it so much harder to communicate with friends and family. I especially rely on cell phones because I live in Island Heights. I cannot just walk across the street to my best friends house like they did back in the 50’s because my friends live in a different town. I rely on my cell phone so I can stay connected to everyone in Bayville, while I am still home in Island Heights. Cell phones are also great for communicating with family or friends that live in different parts of the world. You could talk to someone in California thousands of miles away with just a click of a few buttons.
If the cell phone network were to go down for six months people would be more upset then they realize. We do not even realize how much we use our cell phones and we will not be able to realize it until we lose it. We would not be able to call, text message, browse the Internet, or update our Facebook statuses. Although it may seem like we could easily live without these things, it would be a lot harder to adapt then many people realize. I know that I would not be able to easily adjust if the cell phone network were to randomly crash.

Drivers
The first thing I notice about other drivers on the road is their type of car and license plate. If someone is driving a little red sports car I expect that they will be driving fast and recklessly. On the other hand when I see an old looking car with an old blue New Jersey license plate I expect them to be going about 10 mph below the speed limit. Although this is not always the case it is what pops into my mind when I see these types of cars.
There are many different kinds of drivers that roam the streets today. There are good drivers, bad drivers, and people that think they are good drivers. You need to be confident while driving, but not too confident that you become dangerous to yourself and others. There is definitely a big difference between drivers because some people are more cautious than others. People who are more cautious drive slower and will wait longer before making turns, while people that are less cautious will speed and cut people off. It is better to be a more cautious driver, but you cannot be too cautious. As dangerous as it is to speed it is also dangerous to drive too slow. When driving on the parkway or highway if you drive too slow people will be speeding by you like crazy which is scarier then just keeping up with the flow of traffic. Even though I have only had my license for about a year I have experienced some crazy drivers. There are people that drives super fast and they just cut you off. Especially when you are driving on a highway or parkway people will weave in and out of lanes in order to get in front of everyone else. These types of drivers are annoying and dangerous to themselves and everyone else on the road.
I think it depends on the person if their personalities change when they are behind the wheel of a car. For the most part if you are a calm and relaxed person in general you will most likely be a calm and relaxed driver. Same goes for if you are an aggressive person you will be the person that cuts everyone off and speeds. Other people get too comfortable when behind the wheel of a car. You get into a routine and sometimes people lose do not pay as close attention to the road as they should. Especially when driving to the same roads everyday you start to zone out while driving and not really pay attention.
I want to be a good driver who pays attention and is safe on the road. Occasionally I will find myself zoning out, but I normally pay close attention to my surroundings. I always try to be kind on the road like letting people make a left turn if there is a long line of cars waiting, but I could also get frustrated while driving. It is frustrating when people drive too slow and you are stuck behind them or when someone is so close behind you that youcan not even see their headlightsl. Although some drivers can be irritating I alwasy try to stay calm when behind the wheel of a car.
